Custom Low Noise Linear Power Supply: Ordinarily Blu-ray player’s use switch mode power supplies (SMPS). The switching from these power supplies introduce noise which inevitably is introduced to the circuitry. Due to the high frequency switching of these supplies they also create RFI which in turn affects the video and audio signal.

In contrast the 203 signature utilizes a top-end linear power supply with multiple regulated supplies; these regulators are specially selected for their low noise performance to delivery quiet, clean power to the circuitry. The benefit is a significant improvement in all spectrum of the players performance. For video, there is greater detail, truer colours, a more dynamic contrast, improved image stability, and better depth. Digital and analogue audio is also notably improved with better timing, increased resolution, greater depth, and improved sound-stage.

Femtosecond Reference Video Clock: All commercially available 4K Blu-ray players use standard clocks for the video processing. A “High-End” Blu-ray player may employ a low jitter clock for the audio, but the System on Chip clock (SoC) is a standard clock oscillator circuit with jitter values typically of 100-300 picoseconds. In a similar way that a low jitter clock will reduce phase noise (jitter) for the audio signal, a very low jitter clock for video processing will reduce jitter and noise in the video spectrum.

In the 203 signature we adopt a unique approach to removing jitter in the video spectrum by employing an ultra-low jitter Reference clock for the OP8591 SoC. The Reference clock has a measured jitter performance of 77 Femtoseconds (0.077 Picoseconds – RMS: 100 Hz to 100 KHz) and +/- 0.5ppm stability, amongst the lowest jitter in the industry. The net result is a more realistic looking picture quality with remarkable detail and 3D depth. There is no trace of picture noise, no artifacts, the image is natural and precise. Watching a movie is less fatiguing as the transitions are more easily interpreted by the eye.

Improved Disc Read Accuracy: We discovered during disc playback that reducing interference fields and resonances in the disc transport could improve the performance of video and audio quality. For the 4K disc loader we apply a specialist material layer coating developed to absorb electromagnetic (RFI/EMI) energy, reduce static and cancel out unwanted resonances. The result is improved disc read accuracy, with improved colours and textures for a more realistic picture quality.

Active AC Noise Reduction: In conventional audio/video equipment a traditional mains filter is used and while the better quality filters remove a degree of noise they are inadequate, often introducing negative effects. For the 203 signature we utilize two different types of unconventional solutions that remove noise and provide uninhibited current flow. The benefits are a picture quality that is more immersive and palpable. The sound has an enhanced perception of space and dimensionality, with improved coherence and naturalness.

Active EMI/RFI Noise Reduction and Damping. : The operating conditions of video and audio are much improved when they can work in quiet environment. Inside any Blu-ray player the video processing generates its own noise as well as succumbing to external noise which can affect the players overall performance. To achieve the quietest electrical conditions, in the 203 signature we use materials to shield and absorb the unwanted EMI/RFI and mechanical energy to achieve constantly the best performance regardless of the surroundings.

The OPPO UDP-203 4K UHD Blu-ray player provides unrivalled audio visual performance to home cinema enthusiasts.  Drawing from over a decade of experience in the market, the UDP-203 boasts the most advanced image processing technology available, coupled with high fidelity audio performance. The UDP-203 sets a benchmark for performance at the price and is the ideal source for home cinema enthusiasts.

Advanced Image Processing Technology – The UDP-203 is designed from the ground up based around a custom designed OP8591 SoC (System on Chip)from MediaTek, and provides the the most advanced image decoding and processing technology available for 4K UHD Blu-ray, Blu-ray, DVD and user generated media formats.

4K UHD Blu-ray and Media Playback – The UDP-203 is capable of playing the new 4K UHD Blu-ray discs as well as 4K media files and user generated content. It supports decoding for the HEVC, H.264, VP9 4K, and Hi10P video codecs, providing increased compatibility with user generated media.

HDR and HDR to SDR Conversion – One of the more exciting elements of the new 4K UHD format is the inclusion of high-dynamic range (HDR) video and an expanded color range, allowing for more natural and true-to-life colors. The UDP-203 supports the HDR10 format, and it is also capable of providing an accurate conversion from HDR to SDR for older displays.   support for dolby vision will be available in the future via a firmware upgrade.

Upscaling to Ultra HD (4k) Resolution – The UDP-203 is capable of upscaling of lower resolution content from DVD (720p) and Blu-ray (1080p) to 4Kx2K at 50/60Hz to a compatible display providing four times the resolution of a 1080p Blu-ray disc.

Advanced Picture Control – The UDP-203 also features advanced picture controls. Adjustments can be made to brightness, contrast, hue, saturation and sharpness, allowing the customer to make adjustments to compensate for any limitations found in their other home cinema components, or merely to adjust the image to their own personal taste.

Advanced Audio Processing – The analogue audio processing is handled by a premium AKM AK4458VN 8-Channel DAC chipset with support for formats such as 192 kHz / 32-bit PCM and multi-channel DSD64/128.

Lossless High-resolution Audio – Audio format support has been expanded to DSD64/128 or multi-channel DSD64., as well as 192kHz/24-bit PCM used in high-resolution lossless formats such AIFF, ALAC, APE, FLAC and WAV.

Support for the Latest Surround Formats – In addition to supporting the Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio surround formats, the UDP-203 supports bitstreaming the latest object-based surround formats, Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. These new formats add overhead sound effects to create a greater impression of 3D-dimensionality.

7.1-Channel Analogue Output – To ensure compatibility with older amplifiers, pre-amps, and receivers that do not support HDMI, the UDP-203 retains a 7.1 multi-channel analogue output section, which delivers an incredible sound stage and an immersive surround experience.

Custom-Made 4K Loader – The UDP-203 features a custom-made  4K disc loader capable of super-fast disc loading, compatibility with a wide range of optical media, powerful error correction to ensure error free reading of disc media playback.

High Quality Metal Construction – The UDP-203 features exceptional build quality and is constructed from metal chassis with a brushed Aluminium front panel continuing the tradition of excellent workmanship found in previous generations of OPPO universal players.

Diversified Media Support – The UDP-203 is able to play all standard optical disc formats, such as 4K UHD Blu-ray, Blu-ray, Blu-ray 3D, DVD, DVD-Audio, SACD, and CD. It also supports connected USB hard drives and thumb drives up to 16TB in capacity, and it has the ability to access content from DLNA servers and SMB shares over the local network.
